Olympia, WA : Woman killed while helping child from suspected DUI crash on Saturday, November 12th 2016
A woman helping a child involved in a suspected DUI car crash was hit and killed Saturday night in Snohomish County.
The woman pulled over to help the child as she was passing the accident scene, Washington State Patrol spokesman Sgt. Mark Francis said.
The girl, 9, was riding in a pick-up truck when the driver smashed into a guard rail on state Route 530 between Arlington and Oso.
Authorities say they believe the driver was drunk.
A car hit the woman and the girl from behind as they were walking away from the crash site.
The woman, later identified as 46-year-old Trina Morgan, died on scene, Francis said. The girl suffered minor injuries.
Two other Good Samaritans were hurt in a second crash that occurred about 20 minutes later on U.S. Route 2, just outside of Snohomish.
A pickup truck lost a tire and ended up sideways in the westbound lane, State Trooper Keith Leary said.
The two Good Samaritans stopped to help and were struck by a third vehicle traveling in the opposite direction, Leary said.
Both were taken to the hospital with serious injuries. A third person was injured but refused treatment.
The State Patrol is investigating and says both incidents are reminders for motorists to call 911 and not get out to help if they see an accident.
