Colorado Springs, CO : Woman Arrested For D.U.I After Allegedly Crashing Into House on Saturday, November 15, 2014
Colorado Springs, Colorado
Police believe a 56-year-old woman was drunk when she drove her car into a house Saturday, causing extensive damage.
The crash happened around 4 p.m. in the 2400 block of St. Vrain Street, near the intersection of Platte Avenue and Circle Drive.
No one was injured.
Police said they arrested Theresa Clark on suspicion of DUI and other traffic violations after she damaged a fence at one home before driving into the house owned by Jeff Ducharme.
Ducharme said he was sitting in his living room when the car crashed, missing him by about 10 feet. The impact knocked out his front door and bedroom wall.
Witnesses said Clark drove her car out of the debris and back to her home down the street before police found her.
Ducharme said he will remain in his home. He watched as firefighters removed debris, ensured that the house was sound and boarded up the opening.
It's the second time this week that a car crashed into a home. It also happened Tuesday in the 2100 block of Corona Avenue near the Southgate area. The driver was injured after losing control on pavement made slick by a winter storm. Three passengers and people inside that home were not hurt.
Lt. David Barron of the Colorado Springs Fire Department said firefighters respond to such crashes every few weeks. In most cases, he said, the cause is DUI, falling asleep or impaired driving.
