One woman was killed and three others were injured in a car accident on a Burke County interstate Friday.
Troopers says 65-year-old Nancy Carol Jergenson, from Goldsboro, died from injuries sustained in the accident. She was a passenger in one of the involved SUV's.
All westbound lanes of Interstate 40 were shut down until about 2:45 p.m. Friday.
Traffic was reportedly backed up for four miles because of the crash.
The crash happened Friday afternoon on westbound I-40 near exit 100, Jamestown Road, in Morganton.
Three others were injured and taken to local hospitals. Their is no word on their condition.
Investigators say that three SUV's were involved. As far as factors leading up to the crash, a trooper told WBTV's Steve Ohnesorge that they "do not think speed was a factor, just more of a congested roadway and maybe somebody not paying attention."
There is no word on additional injuries or potential charges.
