Ronkonkoma, NY : Two people were seriously injured in a crash night that shut down all westbound lanes of the Long Island Expressway in Ronkonkoma on Wednesday, 16th January 2019

A driver who lost control on the Long Island Expressway struck another vehicle, seriously injuring two people Wednesday night in a crash that shut down all westbound lanes for five hours in Ronkonkoma, Suffolk police said.

The driver was arrested and charged with reckless driving after police said he collided with the other vehicle between exits 58 and 59 about 3:50 p.m. The two victims in the second vehicle were taken to Stony Brook University Hospital, police said.

The LIE reopened about 9 p.m., police said.

Other details, including the driver's name, were not immediately available as authorities gathered evidence.
