Massachusetts state police say a driver heading the wrong way on Interstate 495 has crashed head-on into another vehicle and has died.
State police spokesman David Procopio says it happened early Thursday in the southbound lanes in Plainville. The driver who caused the crash was a young man from Norton.
The driver of the car that was struck was a 21-year-old Barnstable (BAHRN'-stuh-buhl) woman, who was injured and taken to a hospital in Rhode Island. She's listed in serious condition.
Police say troopers received reports of a wrong-way driver between Exits 13 and 14.
When they arrived in the area the car that had been heading the wrong way already had slammed into an oncoming car.
