Stockton,CA : Driver killed when car veers off Highway 99 on September, Wednesday 20th 2017

A 48-year-old Stockton man said to have been speeding on Highway 99 died Wednesday morning after his sport utility vehicle left the road and overturned, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The victim, who has not been identified, was northbound on Highway 99 at Wilson Way about 8:50 a.m. when his 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe went off the road, according to the CHP.

Authorities said the driver was speeding within all three traffic lanes on Highway 99 as he was approaching Wilson Way. The man tried to move from the fast lane to the slow lane, but his SUV got a flat tire and the vehicle began drifting right and went down a dirt embankment. The CHP said the SUV went through a fence and hit another embankment next to the Calaveras River.

The driver was partially ejected when the SUV landed on its side.

According to the CHP, drugs and/or alcohol have not been ruled out as factors in the crash.

There were no other injuries reported.
