WELLESLEY, MA : 5-year-old boy injured in lawnmower accident in Wellesley on Friday, 16th June 2023

A 5-year-old boy was rushed to the hospital in a helicopter in Wellesley after being run over by a lawnmower Friday afternoon, fire officials said.

Officials said the boy was seriously injured in a backyard on South River Street. First responders raced to the scene just after 2 p.m. and immediately applied a tourniquet to the child’s leg.

“The report was a 5-year-old child run over by a lawnmower,” said Deputy Chief Steve Mortarelli of the Wellesley Fire Department. “Upon arrival, there was a tourniquet applied to try to control the bleeding.”

He was ultimately airlifted to Boston Children’s Hospital after being transported via ambulance to Wellesley College.
