Billerica,MA : Two women and one man died and several others were injured on April, wednesday 3rd 2017

Two women and one man died and several others were injured Wednesday after a Jeep suddenly accelerated and struck several people at an auto auction in Massachusetts.

The crash happened just after 10 a.m. Wednesday, about 90 minutes after an auction was scheduled to begin. Well over 1,000 people were inside the building.

A Jeep, driven by an auction employee in his 70s, was in one of the facility’s eight lanes when it suddenly accelerated through the building, hitting a dozen people.

The vehicle drove the length of a football field inside the warehouse before crashing into a cinder block wall.

One man and two women were left dead, and nine others were seriously hurt.

“I saw the guy with a broken head, a lot of blood,” a witness said.

Investigators say there are two lanes in the warehouse, the red lane in which the cars drive in a single file and the blue lane in which people look at the cars.

"So, there were folks struck in both the red and the blue lanes, people crossing and people standing on the sideline,” said Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan.

Four police officers and a firefighter were working a detail at the auction. The emergency response was immediate.

"So, we were able to start resources that we wouldn't normally know about needing right away,” said Chief Tom Conway with Billerica Fire.

The driver of the Jeep was alert and talking to police after the crash, officials said.

"The preliminary information we have right now suggests that this is a tragic accident,” Ryan said.
