Lynchburg, VA : Rustburg man killed in Spring Mill Road crash on Tuesday afternoon, December 27, 2016

Virginia State Police identified the driver of a tractor-trailer who was killed in a single-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon as 72-year-old Henry C. Rush, of Rustburg.

The crash occurred at 3:54 p.m. on Spring Mill Road in Campbell County near its intersection with New Chapel Road, according to a VSP news release. Rush was driving north on Spring Mill in a flatbed tractor-trailer hauling a front-end loader when he ran off the road about 300 feet north of the intersection. Rush died at the scene.

Though the crash remains under investigation, the release said, the death appears to be "medically related." The tractor-trailer sustained "minimal damage."

The intersection was closed to traffic for several hours, reopening just before 9 p.m.
