Hernando, MS : Four dead, two injured in head-on crash on US 61 in DeSoto County on Saturday night, November 8, 2014

Four people were killed Saturday night in a head-on crash on U.S. 61 in DeSoto County, DeSoto County Coroner Jeff Pounders confirmed. Two others were critically injured in the accident that occurred about 8:15 in the southbound lanes of U.S. 61 at Lakeside, near Lake Cormorant, a DeSoto Sheriff’s Department spokesman said. A northbound vehicle on the divided, four-lane highway appeared to have been in the southbound lane, which remained closed later Saturday as the Mississippi Highway Patrol took command of the scene, the spokesman said. Two ambulance helicopters responded to the crash location. Two vehicles most heavily damaged were a pickup and a passenger car, the sheriff’s spokesman said.
