El Dorado County, CA : 18 years old Man and woman killed in a crash on Highway 49 south of China Hill Road between Placerville and Plymouth on Tuesday morning, Nov 3, 2015

A man and a woman, both 18 years old, were killed Tuesday morning in a crash on Highway 49 in El Dorado County, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The victims were identified as Gabriella Briceno, of El Dorado, and Ernesto Aguilar, of Placerville by the El Dorado County Coroner's Office.

The crash happened about 6:10 a.m. south of China Hill Road between Placerville and Plymouth, Caltrans said.

Briceno and her passenger Aguilar were in Ford Focus traveling northbound on Highway 49 when Briceno lost control of the car, crossed over into the southbound lane and side swiped a Honda Civic, CHP said.

The Focus continued down the highway and was hit on the passenger side by a Toyota Camry.

Briceno and Aguilar died at the scene, CHP said. Both victims were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.

The driver of the Camry, a 46-year-old man from Grisly Flat, was taken to a hospital, but the extent of his injuries are unknown. The driver of the Civic was not injured in the crash.

A portion of Hwy. 49 was closed for a time as crews worked to clear the scene, but the roadway has since reopened.
