Scranton, PA : Pedestrian killed crossing Sans Souci Parkway in hit-and-run crash on Friday morning, March 31, 2017

A pedestrian trying to cross the Sans Souci Parkway was struck and killed in a hit and run crash this morning.

Hanover Township Police Chief Albert Walker said the man was crossing the road around 6:20 a.m. in the area of Parkway Plaza near McDonald’s when he was hit by a white Hyundai that fled the scene. He could not yet name the model of the vehicle.

“There should be some front end damage on the passenger side,” Walker said. He said police found the car’s passenger side mirror at the scene.

The Luzerne County Coroner responded to the scene along with Hanover Township police and fire departments, Pennsylvania State Police, and PennDOT.

Walker said the police investigation has led to traffic disruptions on the Sans Souci Parkway. Investigators have closed all southbound lanes between King’s Road and Main Road and in the “area of the parkway by Parkway Plaza.”

“Traffic is being diverted in those locations,” he said.
