Mount Clemens, MI : Oakland County motorcyclist injured after motorcycle accident in Clinton Township on Saturday night, July 2, 2016

A 30-year-old Oakland County man remains hospitalized today with head injuries after he apparently lost control of the motorcycle he was driving Saturday night and crashed in Clinton Township.

The Royal Oak resident was driving southbound on Utica Road north of 15 Mile Road when the crash took place about 10:30 p.m., Clinton Township police Sgt. Christopher Allis said in a news release.

Allis said a preliminary investigation shows the motorcycle driver was approaching 15 Mile Road in the right lane when something happened that caused him to lose control of the motorcycle.

“For an unknown reason, he drifted into the driveway of Royal Touch car wash where he lost control,” Allis said in the release. “The motorcycle went down on its left side, struck a curb and came to rest in the boulevard grass.”

The driver was transported to McLaren Macomb hospital in Mount Clemens, where he is reported to be in critical condition in the intensive care unit.

Police found a motorcycle helmet at the scene, but it’s not known whether the driver was wearing it when he lost control.

Allis said the motorcycle was a “sports bike”-type.

It’s not yet known whether alcohol or drugs were a factor in the accident.

The investigation is still continuing.
