Mount Clemens, MI : Fatal I-696 crash in Warren on Monday, November, 6th 2017
Michigan State Police have released new details a fatal accident that closed eastbound Interstate 696 for several hours Monday night.
Troopers were called to I-696 at Mound Road in Warren about 7:30 p.m. for a traffic accident, according to F/Lt. Mike Shaw.
Police found a Honda SUV was headed west on I-696 when it went onto the shoulder and struck the median wall. The vehicle was disabled as it came to rest with the driver’s side against the wall, flattening the left front tire.
The driver got out of the vehicle and fled the scene on foot by jumping over the wall. He began crossing the eastbound lanes of I-696.
The driver was struck by a Dodge Challenger and dragged on the roadway. He was lodged under the vehicle, Shaw said, where he later was pronounced dead.
Shaw said no further information is being released on the victim.
The driver of the Dodge Challenger stopped after the crash, where he was interviewed by police and released.
The investigation is ongoing by the MSP Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit. It is pending autopsy results and a review by prosecutors.
