Carriere, MS : A Carriere teenager was killed while riding his bicycle at Old Highway 11 On Tuesday, May 3rd, 2016

A Carriere teenager was killed Tuesday night while riding his bicycle.

Pearl River County Coroner Derek Turnage said Gabriel Lossett, 13, was hit on Old Highway 11 around 9:35 p.m. when his bike veered into oncoming traffic.

Turnage said Lossett was transported to Highland Community Hospital where he later died from his injuries.

Pearl River County Sheriff's Department Chief Deputy Shane Tucker said it appears the fatal crash was a tragic accident. He said no criminal charges have been filed against the driver at this time, but the investigation is ongoing.

Tucker said blood was drawn from the driver, and that sample will be sent to the state crime lab for analysis. The sheriff's department has also requested the Mississippi Highway Patrol perform a reconstruction of the accident.
