One dead in Wreck on I-5 near Silverado California
A wreck today on southbound Interstate 5 at Knighton Road left one person dead and the freeway blocked for more than 90 minutes, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A 1997 Ford Explorer was traveling south on I-5 at 70 mph behind a 2005 Chevy Silverado, driven by a 53-year-old man from Big Bar. The Silverado slowed and the Explorer rear ended it.The Explorer rolled, ejecting the 20-year-old driver into the median at 3:15 p.m.The driver, a woman from Corning, was not wearing a seatbelt.
She was taken to Mercy Medical Center. She died at 4:15 p.m. Authorities did not identify the victim.Both lanes of southbound I-5 were blocked by the wreck, though traffic was able to pass on the right shoulder while CHP officers ran a traffic break.As of 3:35 p.m., traffic was moving on the shoulder, said Denise Yergenson, spokeswoman for the California Department of Transportation. CHP dispatchers reported at 4:50 p.m. the roadway was cleared.
