WILLARD, MO : Another crash on U.S. 160 between Willard, Mo on Sunday, 2nd June 2019
A crash involving a dump truck and pickup on U.S. 160 between Springfield and Willard backed up traffic. It comes less than two weeks after a crash killing a Willard couple and their unborn child. The latest crash happened at U.S 160 and Farm Road 115. Investigators say the pickup on Farm Road 115 was going too fast and did not stop in time. The pickup hit the side of the dump truck, busting open its fuel tank, and spilling gallons of diesel fuel on the road. The driver in the pickup suffered minor injuries.
The high number of crashes along this road has had many hoping for highway upgrades for years. MoDOT says it should start new lane construction and intersection improvements in July or August. MoDOT is waiting for construction bids.
The dump truck driver in Monday morning's crash says adding lanes to the busy highway could have helped in this case.
"it would have at least gave me a chance to get over and maybe avoid it, but there's no telling if it actually would have gave me the opportunity to avoid it," said Jacob Porter.
