SEARSBURG, VT : 2 hurt in tractor-trailer crash on Route 9 on Tuesday, 8th January 2019

A tractor-trailer overturned on Route 9 early Tuesday morning, injuring both the driver and passenger and closing the road for a period of time.

Vermont State Police said the driver, Barbary Jean McGhee, 44, of Sunnydale, California, and the passenger, Tonya Tyner, 52, of Springfield, Missouri, suffered injuries to the neck, back and head. Both were transported to Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington for evaluation, and Tyner was later transported to Albany Medical Center in Albany, N.Y. for advanced care.

Both were extricated from the 2018 Freightliner truck by the Wilmington Fire Department.

Police determined that the eastbound truck had entered a left curve, on a downhill slope, when McGhee lost control of the vehicle on the ice-covered roadway. The truck rolled onto the driver's side, collided with the guardrail in the eastbound shoulder, and slid for about 300 feet.

The tractor-trailer came to rest, lying on its side, facing eastbound, in the westbound lane.

The crash occurred around 4:20 a.m., near the intersection of Route 9 and Somerset Road.

Members of Deerfield Valley Rescue Squad, the Wilmington Fire Department and A’s Towing assisted at the scene.
