Batavia , OH : Loveland woman is dead and two people are injured after a two-vehicle crash in Batavia on Wednesday afternoon, November 19th, 2014
A Loveland woman is dead and two people are injured after a two-vehicle crash in Batavia Wednesday afternoon.
The crash, involving a 1996 Saturn sedan and a red 2006 Chevrolet truck, happened just after 4:30 p.m. on SR 132 south of Benton Road. Both roadways were closed for about six hours while authorities investigated and cleared the scene.
Barry Fridley, 47, of Batavia drove the truck heading northbound on SR 132. He traveled off the right side of the road and tried to correct his path, but the truck crossed the center line where it was struck by the sedan, according to police.
Crystal Melton, 19, was behind the wheel of the sedan. Her passenger, who was pronounced dead at the accident scene, was later identified as 24-year-old Candice Melton, of Amelia.
The truck and the sedan continued off the west side of SR 132.
Two medical helicopters were called to take the injured crash victims, Fridley and Crystal Melton, to University of Cincinnati Medical Center. They suffered serious injuries in the crash.
Police said Wednesday night that Crystal and Candice Melton were not wearing safety belts at the time of the crash, but Ridley was buckled up.
"I've got my investigators working through the crash," Lt. Wayne Price of the Ohio State Patrol Batavia Post said. "I've also got my reconstructionists also working through the crash."
The cause of the accident remained unclear Wednesday night, but investigators warned drivers that roads are slick as snow and ice melt.
"At this point there's obviously nothing that we're ruling out. So we're looking at all the factors that we normally look at when we work through these crashes," Price said.
