URSA, IL : Woman and children escape after vehicle crashes in Mississippi River on Monday, December, 11th 2017

A Keokuk, Iowa, woman and her three children safely escaped a vehicle that crashed into the Mississippi River Monday night west of Ursa.

The Adams County Sheriff's Department said deputies were called to the scene at about 9:40 p.m. on North 2150th Avenue, just east of East 253rd Lane.

The department said Keela R. Casey, 30, reportedly fell asleep behind the wheel and drove a 2004 GMC Envoy into the river. She and her three children exited the vehicle before it was fully submerged.

Casey was cited for driving while license was suspended.

No major injuries were reported.

Assisting were the Adams County Sheriff's Department and the Tri-Township Fire Department.
