Fleming, NY : Man charged with DWI after infant, woman seriously injured in Cayuga County crash on Saturday morning, April 9, 2016

An infant and a woman were seriously injured Saturday morning when a drunken, drugged driver crashed his SUV into a truck in Cayuga County, deputies say.

Raymond Campagna Jr., 37, of 112 North St., Auburn, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs, said Detective Lt. Brian Schenck, of the Cayuga County Sheriff's Office.

Campagna was arrested after deputies responded to a serious crash in Fleming.

Campagna was driving north on Route 34 around 1 a.m. when his 2015 Honda CRV crossed into the southbound lane near Willow Brook Road and into oncoming traffic, Schenck said. The SUV struck a southbound 2004 GMC pickup truck driven by Dakota Potter, 18, he said.

A woman and an infant who were riding in Potter's truck suffered serious injuries. Both were airlifted by Life Net to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse.

A woman who was riding in Campagna's SUV was transported to Auburn Community Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Campagna and Potter were not injured, Schenck said.

Campagna was charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs and alcohol and failure to keep right. He is currently being processed, Schenck said.

Along with deputies and Life Net, members of the Fleming Fire Department and Ambulance, the Owasco Fire Department, Rural/Metro Ambulance, TLC Ambulance and Cayuga County Emergency Management responded to the scene. Deputies were also assisted by Cayuga County 911 and the Wayne County Sheriff's Office.

The crash remains under investigation.
