Killeen, TX : One dead in fatal accident near Gatesville on Wednesday, September 27th 2017

A Brownwood woman is dead following an accident Wednesday east of Gatesville.

At about 3:15 p.m., a two-vehicle crash occurred on U.S. Highway 84, according to Texas Department of Public Safety troopers.

Hattie Graham, 41, was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Coy Latham, a news release stated.

According to the release, a 2015 Toyota Prius driven by Graham was traveling westbound and a 2016 Jeep Cherokee was traveling eastbound on U.S. Highway 84. It was raining at the time of the crash.

The driver of the Toyota lost control and the vehicle crossed over onto the wrong side of the roadway into the path of the oncoming Jeep. The vehicles collided in the eastbound lane.

The Jeep was driven by Roger Hinojosa, 44, of Waco. Hinojosa suffered injuries and was taken to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Temple by helicopter. There were no other occupants in either vehicle.

No charges have been filed. The accident closed down the highway for a short time.

“In light of this tragedy, the Texas Department of Public Safety would like to stress the importance of adjusting your vehicle’s speed according to roadway and weather conditions,” Sgt. David Roberts said in the release.
