Opelika, AL : Auburn police searching for suspect in fatal hit-and-run accident on Thursday, 6th October 2016
Auburn police are searching for a suspect after a pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle Thursday night.
Capt. Lorenza Dorsey said Auburn police and fire personnel received a call at 7:49 p.m. of a traffic accident involving a pedestrian on Shelton Mill Road near East University Drive.
Police located a 28-year-old Hispanic male laying along roadway sustaining what appeared to be injuries as a result of being struck by a vehicle
He was taken to East Alabama Medical Center by ambulance where he was later pronounced deceased.
Police are working the incident as a traffic fatality, Dorsey said, and are asking the public to be on the lookout for a vehicle that has sustained front-end damage, primarily to the passenger side of the vehicle.
"And also to the driver of this vehicle, we understand it was possibly an accident and we are asking the driver to come forward and notify us of what happened," Dorsey said.
Police said Friday afternoon that they were working the the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences and the FBI to identify a suspect in the case.
"The preliminary investigation suggests an accident with contributing factors involved, the individual(s) responsible are encouraged to come forward and contact detectives," Auburn police said in a press release Friday afternoon.
The Auburn Police Division ask that anyone with information on the case or has observed any vehicles with recent front end damage with no explanation to call detectives at 334-501-3140 or the anonymous tip line at 334-246-1391.
