Grand Junction, CO : Two people who were killed in a head-on collision on Interstate 70 on Sunday, October, 29th 2017
The Mesa County Coroner’s Office on Tuesday afternoon identified the two people who were killed in a head-on collision on Interstate 70 on Sunday.
Linda Woodward, 73, of La Jara, and Billy Steele, 33, of Meeker, died of multiple blunt-force injuries. Two dogs in Woodward’s truck and a dog and a cat in Steele’s truck also died. A passenger in Steele’s truck was injured and taken to the hospital. That person has not been identified, nor has their condition been released.
Woodward was westbound on I-70 in a white Ford F-250 near the Horizon Drive exit when she drove into eastbound traffic and collided with a black Chevrolet Silverado 2500, driven by Steele. Both vehicles caught fire. Investigators have said they don’t know why Woodward’s truck ended up in the eastbound lanes of traffic.
In a separate accident on westbound I-70 that damaged two Grand Junction police cars directing traffic from the fatal crash, a 52-year-old Palisade man was cited for careless driving causing injury.
