Hancock, ME : Motorcyclist injured in Route 1 crash on Wednesday evening, July 23, 2014
A motorcyclist heading north on Route 1 was injured Wednesday evening after colliding with a southbound Dodge Durango.
According to State Trooper Cliff Peterson, the accident occurred around 5:30 p.m., when the driver of the red Durango was turning left into Hancock Grocery. While turning, the front, passenger-side corner of the sport utility vehicle hit the black Yamaha motorcycle.
The motorcyclist was taken to Maine Coast Memorial Hospital by County Ambulance, said Peterson, identifying him as Jacob Crucitti, 23, of Milbridge.
The Hancock Volunteer Fire Department also responded.
Peterson wasn’t immediately able to comment on Crucitti’s condition, but said he had complained of injuries and pain.
The pregnant driver of the Durango, Leila Foster, 29, of Mass., did not complain of injuries, Peterson said. Neither did her passenger, Laura Wentworth, 28, also of Mass.
Peterson estimated the damage to the Durango to be $5,000 and the Yamaha to be totaled. Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene.
Asked what might have caused the crash, Peterson said, “The sun was also up in that part of the day, so I’m concerned that glare might have had something to do with the accident.”
Peterson didn’t think charges would arise from the incident.
