Sparta, NJ : Mother, 2 kids in car hit by dump truck on Route 517 in Sparta on Friday, October 28, 2016

A woman and her two sons were injured Friday when a dump truck crashed into their car, police said.

The accident occurred at 7:48 a.m. on Friday on Route 517 at the intersection of West Mountain Road.

A 2006 Peterbuilt dump truck was traveling north on Route 517 approaching the intersection of West Mountain Road when the driver, Brian P. Singh, 51, of the Bronx, lost control of the truck and crossed the double yellow lines, police said.

The truck then struck a 2012 Audi traveling south on Route 517 head-on, police said.

The operator of the Audi, Sonia A. Antunes, 42, of Sparta, was traveling with her 10- and 9- year-old sons and all three were injured in the crash, police said. All three complained of neck, chest and leg pain and were transported to Newton Medical Center for treatment. Antunes was treated for her injuries and released, according to a hospital spokesman, who said the condition of minors is generally not released.

Singh was not injured but he was issued a summons for careless driving, police said.

Route 517 was closed for a short time but because it occurred during rush hour it created a major back up, police said.

Traffic was alternated through the scene until the vehicles were removed and the road completely opened up about an hour after the crash.
