JOHNS ISLAND, SC : 21-year-old identified in fatal weekend crash on Johns Island on Saturday, 2nd March 2019

Officials have identified the driver of a deadly accident on Main Street over the weekend.

According to Deputy Coroner Brittney Martin, 21-year-old Joshua McDill of Charleston died as a result of blunt force trauma.

Around 2:30 a.m. Saturday, Capt. Roger Antonio with the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to a single car wreck on Main Road near Mary Ann Point Road.

McDill was reportedly traveling on Main Road when he ran off the roadway, struck and embankment and ultimately collided into a tree.

The vehicle caught fire and became fully engulfed.

Capt. Antonio said St. Johns Fire crews extinguished the fire and discovered the driver, who was the only occupant, had died at the scene.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
