Dane County, WI : 31-year-old Madison man seriously injured in Dane County crash on Wednesday morning July 30th 2014

A 31-year-old Madison man sustained serious injuries Wednesday morning when another driver failed to stop at a stop sign in Dane County, according to officials.

Ricardo Portillo was struck on the driver's side of his vehicle when a vehicle driven westbound on Burke Road by Kari Sporle, 23, failed to stop at the Bailey Road intersection about 7:38 a.m. in the Town of Sun Prairie, according to a news release from the Dane County Sheriff's Department.

Portillo's vehicle then traveled across a yard, hitting a house in the 3000 block of Bailey Road. The accident caused minor damage to the home, according to the release.

Sporle received minor injuries from the air bag deployment, and both drivers were taken to Madison hospitals.

Sporle told officials she was unfamiliar with the area and did not see the stop sign, according to the release. Officials cited Sporle for failure to follow a stop sign.
