Bangor, ME : Truck going wrong-way down State Street causes multi-vehicle crash on Saturday evening, June 25, 2016
A medical problem appears to have been the cause of a wrong-way crash in which several vehicles were damaged Saturday evening on State Street, a Bangor police officer said Sunday.
The multiple-vehicle crash happened about 5:45 p.m., when a man driving a Ford F-250 pickup suffered a medical problem while driving down State Street hill, Bangor police Sgt. Wade Betters said Sunday.
Instead of turning right onto Harlow Street upon reaching the bottom of the hill, the truck kept traveling straight and entered the one-way section of State Street, colliding head on with a SUV and striking a pickup and a car that were sitting in traffic, one of which was pushed into two parked vehicles, Betters said.
The names and ages of those involved were not immediately available Sunday morning.
“It was pretty significant but it was a slow-speed type deal — a big, heavy truck that plowed down the wrong way into oncoming traffic,” Betters said.
A woman who was a passenger in one of the struck vehicles was injured, Betters said. Along with the pickup driver who suffered the medical problem, she was taken to the hospital for treatment.
Betters said speed and alcohol were not factors in the crash.
