McDONOUGH, GA : One dies in nine-car fiery crash on I-75 on Saturday, 20th August, 2016
A Henry County high school student is believed to have died Saturday morning in a fiery crash on Interstate 75 that involved nine vehicles and sent four people to the hospital.
Few details were known Saturday evening, but Sgt. Daniel Gibbs with the Henry County Police Department said it appeared that a tractor-trailer traveling northbound near Exit 218 sometime between 10:30 and 11 a.m. lost control and then caught on fire.
“Nine other cars were involved in the wreck,” Gibbs said.
Four people were transported to Atlanta Medical Center with injuries. One person, believed to be a Locust Grove High School student, was killed in the crash.
A vigil was being held Saturday evening at the high school.
Henry County Fire Department arrived on the scene and extinguished the fire, and the Motor Carrier Compliance Division and the Georgia Department of Transportation assisted Henry County police who responded to the scene.
