Roanoke Rapids, N.C : Man dies in single vehicle wreck near Littleton on Sunday, April 2, 2017

A man died Sunday when he lost control of his truck and struck a tree.
Shortly before 5 p.m. a man believed to be Melvin Lee Arrington, 62, was traveling west on Sledge Road near Littleton in a 1982 Chevrolet pickup. Arrington lost control of the vehicle on a straightaway following a turn and veered off the right hand side of the roadway, the bottom of his truck striking a tree. The vehicle caught fire after the collision with Arrington inside. Trooper D.P. Efird said the cause of death is currently unknown as a result of the condition of the body. A call regarding the incident is recorded as being received at 4:41 p.m.
Efird said there were skid marks visible on the pavement and excessive speed was a contributing factor in the crash. In his report, Efird listed Arrington’s speed at the time of the accident as 75 miles per hour.
