Albany , NY : One Teenage Passenger killed in Crash after Canadian bus driver lost control at grassy median on Thursday , January 15th 2015

New York state police say the driver of a Canadian tour bus was drowsy or distracted when he lost control and crashed, killing a teenage passenger.

The July 18th accident on Interstate 87, also known as the Adirondack Northway, left the bus on its side in a grassy median about 90 miles north of Albany. It killed 14-year-old Chelssy Mercier of Quebec, who was traveling with her mother from Trois Rivieres, Quebec, to New York City.

The bus was carrying 55 passengers and its 61-year-old driver, Rejean Perron of Quebec.

Investigators say they found no mechanical problems or evidence Perron was under the influence of drugs or alcohol. They also ruled out cellphone use.

Perron was ticketed for moving unsafely from the driving lane and having improper federal markings on the bus.
