Augusta, GA : A Richmond County Sheriff’s Office deputy was involved in an accident on Interstate 520 on Tuesday, 5th June 2018

A Richmond County Sheriff’s Office deputy was involved in an accident on Interstate 520 at Deans Bridge Road at Exit 5 shortly before noon today.

The driver of a silver Tahoe was traveling westbound in the center lane and when she attempted to merge from the center lane into the median lane, she struck the right side of a second vehicle, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office. Both vehicles lost control and the second vehicle struck the rear of Deputy Douglas Kirkland’s patrol car.

Kirkland, along with the drivers of the other two vehicles, were transported to AU Medical Center to be treated for what appeared to be minor injuries, according to the release.
