Marblehead,MA : High speed Marblehead crash kills one on June, Tuesday 27th 2017
Marblehead, Massachusetts
One person was killed in two car crash that left debris spread across two lanes on Ocean Avenue Tuesday.
According to Police Chief Robert Picariello, the crash occurred shortly before noon Tuesday. An officer working a detail on Ocean Avenue reported a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed heading off Marblehead Neck.
Picariello said a short time later dispatch reported a motor vehicle crash at the intersection of Ocean and Beach Street. Police, fire and ambulance responded to the scene.
Both vehicles, a red pickup truck and a white SUV, sustained extensive front end damage. Picariello said the driver of one vehicle was transported to the hospital. The driver of the second vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.
The names are being withheld pending notification of relatives, he said.
One nearby resident said she heard the crash, but did not see it. She said she also heard one vehicle was doing nearly 90 miles per hour when it struck the other vehicle, apparently head on. The accident did shut down Ocean Avenue for a period of time, but was reopened to traffic by late afternoon.
Picariello said the accident is under investigation by the Marblehead Police as well as State Police.
