WINCHESTER BAY, OR : Two injured in rollover accident on May, Tuesday 2nd 2017
Two Winchester Bay residents were rushed to the hospital Tuesday with injuries suffered in a single-vehicle rollover accident.
Oregon State Police Sgt. Michael Berland said driver Kenneth Duane McGrew, 76, was driving a 735 FTH Ford Escape south on U.S. Highway 101 near mile post 214. McGrew was trying to pull his mid-sized sport utility vehicle off the roadway onto the southbound shoulder. McGrew said there was a "large vehicle parked in the gravel pullout and he attempted to re-enter the southbound lane of travel," according to the police report.
McGrew then lost control of his Ford and struck a large tree's root system. The vehicle rolled onto its roof, "traveled a short distance landing upright and facing north," according to the report filed by OSP Trooper David Martinez. McGrew's passenger was Shirley Anne Lucas-McGrew, 76.
Officers and other emergency personnel from the Reedsport Police and fire departments rushed to the scene.
