The name of a high school student athlete who died Tuesday morning on state Route 152 has been released. The Wayne County Sheriff's Office has identified him as Colt Thomas Adams, 16, who was a standout varsity football and basketball player at Wayne High School. Colt was a sophomore at Wayne High.
State Route 152 was closed for hours as crews cleared the scene. The crash, which was reported just before 9 a.m., involved a tractor-trailer and an SUV.
Colt's sister, who was a passenger in the SUV with him, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. An elementary school student, she is expected to recover, according to Wayne High football coach Tom Harmon.
The crash happened about halfway between Lavalette and Wayne on a relatively straight stretch of roadway before a sharp curve locals call "all-day curve."
One sports ranking had Colt as the fourth best tight end in the state for the upcoming season late this summer and fall.
Harmon described Colt as "committed" and "selfless" -- a confident voice in the huddle -- but also someone who didn't take himself too seriously.
