Authorities have identified the driver of the semi-tractor trailer pronounced dead at the scene of a three-vehicle crash that left four other motorists injured west of Plainfield Sunday evening.

In a press release issued late Monday, Kendall County Coroner Jacquie Purcell identified the deceased as Edmond Leif Erickson, 74, of Sandwich. Purcell confirmed the cause of death as blunt force injuries due to a motor vehicle collision.

In a press release, Illinois State Police said they were summoned at 6:12 p.m. to the crash site at Route 126 and Ridge Road in NaAuSay Township.

Police said their preliminary investigation indicates the crash occurred when a semi-tractor trailer that was traveling on Route 126 entered the intersection at Ridge Road after the traffic signal had turned red and struck a 2001 Dodge Dakota. The semi-tractor trailer then rolled into a 2017 Nissan Sentra that was also stopped for the red light.

According to police, the driver of the semi-tractor trailer was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver and passenger in the Dodge Dakota were seriously injured and transported to an area hospital.
