Three people were injured, two critically, in a pair of motorcycle crashes on or near Interstate 69 early Sunday, Fort Wayne police said.

At 3:34 a.m., police said they were called to a crash near southbound Lima Road and the on-ramp to northbound I-69. The caller said a motorcycle was down in the field on the north side of the on-ramp.

Officers found an adult male who appeared to have been thrown from the motorcycle. He was in critical condition at the scene and was taken to a hospital.

Police believe the motorcyclist was trying to go north on I-69 from southbound Lima Road when he failed to negotiate the curve, left the roadway and went into the field, where he was thrown a short distance from the motorcycle. Police said he was not wearing a helmet.

About 30 minutes later, police responded to a report of a motorcycle down on I-69 northbound at the 315 mile marker, just south of the Interstate 469 ramp.
