Alton, IL : Motorcycle crash victim airlifted from East Alton to St. Louis hospital on Monday October 10 2016

A motorcyclist crashed Monday afternoon around 5:30 p.m. at Berkshire Boulevard in East Alton, near the street’s intersection with Valley Drive.

A reporter at the scene said a friend rode her own motorcycle behind the crash victim, who said she saw the victim’s motorcycle fishtail before the female victim “flew off the bike.” Witnesses at the scene also said the victim did not appear to be wearing a helmet.

East Alton police and fire departments were at the scene, along with an Alton Memorial ambulance. First responders kept the crash victim in the ambulance until a medical services helicopter arrived, which landed nearby in the 800 block of Berkshire Boulevard, next to a cornfield.

Firefighters at the scene said the victim seemed to be in “very serious” condition and was flown to a St. Louis hospital.

Authorities closed a long stretch of Berkshire Boulevard, from Wood River Avenue, in East Alton, to Ninth Street, in Rosewood Heights, to all traffic while first responders investigated the crash scene.

The crash is under investigation by the East Alton Police Department.
