Oakland County, MI : Young woman killed in pedestrian collision with hit-and-run driver on Drahner Road in Oxford Township on Tuesday, March 1, 2016

A 19-year-old Macomb Township man turned himself in to authorities on Tuesday afternoon after an early morning fatal hit-and-run in Oxford Township.

The victim, identified as Jordyn Brooke Puckett, 26, from Orion Township, was found dead on the road in Oxford Township.

Two friends of the victim said she was a passenger in their vehicle Monday evening when they became involved in an argument while driving on Drahner around 9:30 p.m., according to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.

“She exited the vehicle and proceeded to walk eastbound on Drahner,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement. “The friends attempted to return Jordyn to the vehicle, but she refused. They later returned to the area looking for her, but were unsuccessful in locating her and assumed she had safely arrived home.”

Puckett was struck around 10 p.m. nearly a mile from where she left her friend’s vehicle, authorities said. She was found by a newspaper delivery woman just before 4:20 a.m.

The suspect is being held at the Oakland County Jail while the county Prosecutor’s Office reviews of potential charges.

The suspect’s vehicle, a black 2015 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, has been impounded as evidence. The truck had damage consistent with evidence at the scene, authorities said.

The sheriff’s office’s crash reconstruction unit is assisting sheriff’s deputies who are working to understand what happened.

Investigators continue to search for witnesses. Those with information are being asked to call the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office tip line at 1-888-TURN-1-IN.
