Happy Valley, OR : Man arrested, charged with hit-and-run of bicyclist on Tuesday afternoon, August 26, 2014
A man was arrested for felony hit and run after hitting a bicyclist on Tuesday afternoon, Clackamas County sheriff’s deputies said.
Leodan Juarez Belton, 49, is in jail after an incident outside a gas station on SE 82nd Ave. just south of King Rd. at around 3 p.m. on Thursday.
Robert B. Hyer, 30, was riding in the bike lane in front of an entry to the gas station when Juarez Belton turned into the gas station and knocked him to the ground, deputies said. They said he checked on Hyer, went in and bought some ice, then took off when he heard sirens coming.
A firefighter got the license plate number, which Oregon State Police tracked to a home near SE 157th and SE Sunny Side Rd. Troopers found the truck abandoned in a parking lot nearby.
At about 4:15 p.m., a deputy spotted Juarez Benton walking to his home and detained him.
Deputies said Hyer was treated for minor injuries.
