Logan, UT : A 29-year-old Hyrum woman who was involved in a crash on Tuesday, August 8, 2017

A 29-year-old Hyrum woman who was involved in a crash in Providence on Tuesday morning died in an Ogden hospital overnight, although officials do not believe her death was caused by the crash.

“Apparently there was a pre-existing condition and I don’t know that anyone was aware of it at the time,” Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Lee Perry said Wednesday.

According to Perry, the woman was driving to Logan on State Road 165 and as she drove through Providence, she reportedly had a sudden change of plans and made an abrupt move from the left lane to the right.

Another vehicle behind her in the right lane was unable to avoid a collision and struck the woman’s car, sending it over the curb.

The woman was checked out at the scene by emergency medical technicians but she denied transport to a local hospital. Instead, she was booked into the Cache County Jail on suspicion of driving under the influence, Perry said.

Later in the afternoon, the woman’s condition apparently changed while she was at the jail and she was transported a local hospital by ambulance and later flown to McKay-Dee Hospital, where she later died.

The woman’s name is not being released at this time because the investigation is ongoing, Perry said.
