One child was killed and another critically injured in a crash today while riding unrestrained in a van without any back seats, according to Metro Police.
The 2014 Chrysler van was north on Cherry Street about 9 a.m. when it attempted to make a U-turn at Broadbent Boulevard and was hit by a southbound pickup truck, police said.
The driver of the van, a 30-year-old Las Vegas woman, and two boys, ages 9 and 6, were taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, where the older child was pronounced dead, police said. The 6-year-old suffered critical injuries, while the woman had moderate injuries, police said.
The driver of the pickup truck, a 33-year-old Las Vegas man, suffered minor injuries, police said.
The collision remains under investigation, police said.
