Rapid City, SD : South Dakota Highway Patrol Vehicle Involved in Accident on Hwy. 44 on Monday, March 9, 2015
A South Dakota Highway Patrol trooper was involved in a two–vehicle accident Monday morning that sent one person to the hospital.
The Rapid City Police Department says shortly before 9:30 Monday morning a patrol vehicle was traveling westbound on Highway 44.
The RCPD says Highway Patrol Trooper Brock Olson was assisting in a search for a vehicle involved in an unrelated weapons call when a Pontiac Grand Prix was attempting to make a left turn into a private business from the eastbound side of Highway 44.
Police say Trooper Olson tried to avoid the collision, but the Grand Prix, driven by 50–year–old Ranee Haglund of Rapid City ended up striking his vehicle on the front driver's side.
Haglund was transported to Rapid City Regional Hospital and was cited for failure to yield during a left turn.
Police say Trooper Olson was not injured, and that both drivers were wearing their seatbelts.
