Milton, N.H : 5 hurt in crash on Route 16 in Milton on Friday, June 20, 2014
A section of Route 16 in Milton was closed Friday because of a serious crash.
New Hampshire State Police said the crash happened about 3 p.m. and involved two cars.
Five people were hospitalized after the crash, including two boys.
Police said they were working another crash at Exit 18 when the two-car crash happened in the northbound lanes.
"Apparently, a vehicle didn't recognize that traffic was stopped, and came in and struck the last vehicle in line at a high rate of speed," New Hampshire State Police Lt. Chris Vetter said.
The occupants of the car that was struck were all taken to a hospital.
"The injuries are significant. I am not sure what they entail at this point, but at least one of the people that was in the car that was struck was (flown by helicopter) to Maine Medical," Vetter said.
The driver of the vehicle that caused the crash was also hurt.
An 11-year-old, who was identified as Suljon Myshqeri, suffered critical injuries. A 9-year-old, who was identified as Matthew Myshqeri, was in fair condition.
Elena Myshqeri, 49, was in good condition, but a condition was not available for Besim Myshqeri, 44.
"The investigation is in its infancy at this point in time. We haven't ruled anything out. Alcohol, speed will be looked at, as well as other driver distractions," Vetter said.
The road was closed for a portion of the evening commute, but it was later reopened.
Police urged drivers to exercise caution, especially when in heavy traffic.
