A New Jersey man has died in a fiery tractor-trailer crash on a Connecticut highway.

State Police say the rig driven by 48-year-old Danilo Maia, of Kearny, New Jersey, veered off the right side of Interstate 91 south at about 2 a.m. Monday, crashed into some trees and caught fire.

Maia was pronounced dead at the scene.

The state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection responded to the scene to remove fuel from the tractor-trailer’s tank.

Some lanes of the highway remained closed until 8:30 a.m.

The crash remains under investigation.
