The Villages, FL : 73-year-old John Zapata dead in a single-vehicle crash on Odell Circle near Canal Street on Monday night, April 6, 2015

A man was killed Monday night in The Villages after his car crashed into a tree.

The Florida Highway Patrol said 73-year-old John Zapata was traveling east on Odell Circle near Canal Street when he suffered a medical emergency and lost control of his car.

Troopers said the car left the roadway and struck a tree.

Zapata was transported to The Villages Regional Hospital where he later died.
