Omaha, NE : A two-car crash at South 72nd and Grover Streets on Monday, December, 18th 2017
Two people were seriously injured Tuesday morning in a two-car crash at South 72nd and Grover Streets.
The crash occurred around 6:25 a.m., police said. Both of the injured were taken to Creighton University Medical Center-Bergan Mercy.
Police said a 2005 Mazda 3, which was southbound on 72nd Street, had stopped for a red light. The vehicle was struck in the rear by a southbound 2012 Ford Fusion, police said.
The driver of the Mazda, Richard Ashburn, 47, Omaha, and the passenger of the Ford, Matthew Layman, 36, Fremont, were injured in the crash.
Ashburn suffered head, neck and back pain. His injuries were not considered life-threatening, police said. Layman suffered facial and head injuries. His injuries also were not considered life-threatening, police said.
The driver of the Ford, Hannah Synclair Smolins Lembke, 21, Fremont, was cited on suspicion of following too close, striking a fixed object, having no insurance, and having an unrestrained occupant in the vehicle, police said.
Excessive speed and alcohol use were not factors in the crash, police said.
