SAN JOSE, CA : 3-car crash kills 1 in East San Jose on Tuesday, 19th November, 2019

One person was killed and one critically injured in a three-car collision Tuesday night in East San Jose, authorities said.

Firefighters and officers were called to the intersection of Alum Rock and Jackson avenues around 10:10 p.m. for a report of a three-vehicle crash, said San Jose Police Department public information officer Gina Tepoorten.

A man was driving a 1999 Honda sedan eastbound on Alum Rock Avenue, Tepoorten said, and collided with a northbound 2016 Tesla. The Honda continued through the center bus lane onto westbound Alum Rock, where it hit a 2019 Dodge Durango.

The male driver of the Honda ran from the scene and remains at large, according to Tepoorten. He is described as about 40 years old with a thin build and wearing a red jersey.

San Jose fire officials extricated two men from the Honda and rushed them to a local hospital, where one was pronounced dead and the other remains in critical condition.

The death marks the city’s 48 traffic fatality of the year.

The drivers of the Tesla and Dodge were not injured, according to Tepoorten. They remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.
