Gardena, CA : Woman killed, 4 injured in collision that sends car into iconic Gardena doughnut shop on Tuesday ,July 7th 2015
A woman was killed and four people were injured Tuesday when a car involved in a crash with a sport utility vehicle careened into an iconic Gardena doughnut shop, police said.
The crash occurred about 7:20 p.m. when two cars collided at Marine and Western avenues. Gardena police Lt. Vince Osorio said it appeared the vehicles, a sport utility vehicle and a white car, entered the intersection at the same time.
Their directions of travel were not immediately known.
The vehicles ended up in the corner parking lot of Donut King II, a shop marked by its large doughnut sign on the roof. The car crashed through the doughnut shop’s wall. The SUV ended up directly behind it, but facing the wrong direction, with their back bumpers touching.
The deceased, a 30-year-old woman from Huntington Park, died from her injuries at 7:52 p.m., said Gardena police Lt. Uikilifi Niko.
The intersection was closed and a SigAlert was declared by the California Highway Patrol for the police investigation of the crash.
